Description/Abstract:

This project attempts to identify effective models for teaching theory to music journalism undergraduates. Journalism as a subject has a very practical base, and students can find it difficult connecting their practice with the wider theoretical context. Data were gathered from questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with academics purposively sampled at Goldsmiths College, Southampton Solent University and UCA Epsom. The report concludes that practitioner teachers need help developing their own theoretical expertise in order to create effective learning opportunities for their students.
